Recognized as one of Michigan’s leading public affairs and political consultants with more than 40 years of comprehensive experience, Tom Shields has managed a wide range of public issues including professional sports, tribal gaming, environmental, insurance, education, and general business and community affairs.


Since founding MRG in 1979, Shields has helped develop the firm into one of the leading public affairs and political consulting firms in Michigan and nationally. MRG has won numerous local, state, and national advertising and public relations honors including numerous Pollie Awards, the American Association of Political Consultants highest honor, as well as several Silver Anvil awards from the Public Relations Society of America.


Shields is a Board Director of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Chamber Services Corporation and the Advisory Board of the Lansing Community College Marketing Department. He was appointed by Governor John Engler to serve on the Michigan Film Commission and the Michigan Workforce Development Board. Shields is a former Board Director of the National Federation of Independent Business.


Shields attended Wayne State University and studied Political Science.
